What's included in your server

Same hardware and same features on every plan. The only thing that changes when you upgrade is the RAM.

Fast per-core CPU

A Minecraft server runs its main loop on a single thread, so what matters is how fast one core is, not how many you get. Our nodes use high-clock dedicated CPUs with no artificial CPU caps, and each new server lands on the node with the least load.

Dedicated RAM

The RAM on your plan is yours, not shared with the neighbors. Upgrade to a bigger plan at any time without losing the world or the config.

NVMe PCIe 4.0 storage

World saves and chunk loading hit the disk directly. NVMe removes the micro-stutter you get on hosts that still run SATA SSDs or oversold storage.

One-click backups

Take a backup from the panel before updating a modpack or trying a new plugin, and restore it with one click if something breaks.

Full Pterodactyl panel

Live console, file manager, SFTP, backups, subdomains, task scheduler and a one-click modpack installer. No features locked behind a bigger plan.

24/7 support on Discord

Real people, no ticket templates. We are a Mexican team and we are bilingual: support answers in English and in Spanish, so a mixed community gets help in both languages.

Forge is the loader behind most of the classic modpacks: RLCraft, Pixelmon, the older All the Mods, Better MC for 1.20.1. A Forge server is heavier than a Paper one, slower to boot and far more sensitive to the wrong Java version or a client-only mod left in the folder. This page covers what we set up for you, what you still decide, and what a Forge server needs to run well. If your pack is on 1.20.2 or newer, check the NeoForge page first: most modern packs moved there.

What is different about a Forge server

Three things, and all three cause most support tickets. First, the Java version is tied to the Minecraft version: 1.16.5 wants Java 8, 1.18 to 1.20.4 want Java 17, 1.20.5 and newer want Java 21, and the 26.x line needs Java 25. Run the wrong one and the server stops with an UnsupportedClassVersionError before it loads a single mod. In the panel you pick the Java image per server, and the modpack installer sets it for you.

Second, the server runs through Forge's own launcher (run.sh and user_jvm_args.txt), not a plain jar, so the RAM goes in user_jvm_args.txt rather than in the start command. The panel handles that, but it is worth knowing when you read a crash report.

Third, client-only mods. Shaders, minimaps, HUD tweaks and most "visual" mods crash a dedicated server when they are left in mods/. Server packs from CurseForge already strip them; if you build your own mod list, test it on the server and read the last twenty lines of the console when it fails: Forge almost always names the mod.

Installing a pack or your own mods

From the Modpacks tab you install any CurseForge pack: the installer downloads the server files, sets Forge and Java and leaves the server ready to start. For your own mod list, pick Forge and the Minecraft version in the version selector, start once to generate the folders, then drop the .jar files into mods/ through the file manager or SFTP and restart.

Every player needs the same mods and versions in their launcher; nine out of ten "I cannot join" reports on a modded server are a version mismatch, not a server problem.

RAM and CPU for Forge

Forge packs are the ones that most often get bought too small. Light packs run on 4-6 GB; RLCraft, Pixelmon and Better MC want 8 GB for a small group; 300-mod kitchen-sink packs want 10-16 GB from day one. Leave headroom between the Java heap and the plan: the panel does that for you, and the out-of-memory guide explains why.

More important than RAM: modded ticks are heavy and single-threaded, so per-core CPU speed decides whether the server holds 20 TPS. Our nodes run dedicated CPUs with no artificial usage caps and NVMe storage, and we do not oversell them.

Where to host it

Modded servers send more data per player than vanilla, so a stable route matters. Miami for the US South and Latin America, Los Angeles for the West Coast, Canada for the Northeast, Roubaix for Europe. You pick in the cart and can move later.

Frequently asked questions

Which Forge versions can I run?

Any version Forge publishes, from 1.7.10 to the current line. The version selector lists them; the modpack installer picks the one the pack needs.

Which Java version does my Forge server need?

1.16.5 and older: Java 8. 1.18 to 1.20.4: Java 17. 1.20.5 to 1.21.x: Java 21. 26.x: Java 25. The panel lets you pick the Java image per server and the installer sets it automatically.

Why does my Forge server crash on start?

Usually a client-only mod in mods/, a Java version mismatch, or not enough RAM for the pack to finish loading. The last twenty lines of the console name the mod or the error. Support reads crash reports with you.

Should I use Forge or NeoForge?

For 1.20.1 and older, Forge. For 1.20.2 and newer, most packs moved to NeoForge. Use whatever your pack was built for; the installer follows the pack.

How much RAM does a Forge server need?

4-6 GB for light packs, 8 GB for RLCraft, Pixelmon or Better MC with a small group, 10-16 GB for 300-mod packs. Upgrading keeps the world and mods.

Do you migrate my existing Forge server?

Yes, for free: world, mods, configs and the exact loader version, with a backup first. Modded migrations are the ones that need the most care, so we always check versions before switching.
